Dear Friends in Christ, on this most hly night we gather to begin the vigil of the Lord's resurrection, in union with the whole Church throughout the world. We will bless this fire, reminder of the pillar that led the Israelites out of Egypt. Throghout the night, the Israelites kept vigil by the seashore waiting for God to act once again. We too keep vigil on this holy night. Around a pillar of fire we too find our safety and delight. Throughout this night we tell the stories we hold dear, the stories handed down to us by our ancestors in the faith. Then, nourished and renewed by God's word proclaimed in the Light of Christ, we respond through the sacramental actions of Baptism and Eucharist, affirming and proclaiming the most sacred mysteries of our faith. So let us begin our solemn celebration!
